“...with a cooler, fog-influenced growing season given the proximity to the Bay and the orientation of how the High Ranch saddle sits above the western side of the caldera in the sunshine. The resulting wines have incredible color, density of tannin, and expressive Cabernet characteristics. It is an incredible honor to have been part of the team along with Mike Wolfe, who developed this vineyard. The wines are simply stunning."
The High Ranch Vineyard
With Napa Valley views stretching from Mt. St. Helena at the Valley’s north end, across to the western Mayacamas range and Stags Leap on the eastern ridgeline, to the southern hills sloping down towards Carneros, the High Ranch vineyard is a breathtaking site to grow grapes. Perched above the fog line on a sloping knoll east of Napa, it began its life as an enviable place for horses to graze.
Located in the Coombsville appellation, the vineyard was planted exclusively to five acres of Cabernet Sauvignon. The selected Cabernet clones are ideal for the well-draining volcanic soils, cooler climate and gently rolling hills.
